EFMC-ISMC 2024

XXVIII EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry

 Rome, Italy    September 1-5, 2024

The XXVIII EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry is organised by the Medicinal Chemistry Division of the Società Chimica Italiana (Italian Chemical Society), on behalf of the European Federation for Medicinal chemistry and Chemical biology (EFMC).

The symposium will take place in Rome, Italy from September 1-5, 2024

The EFMC is the main organisation for the European Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology community, with 30 member societies and about 9.000 members. Its biennial EFMC-ISMC is a key symposium in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery and it traditionally attracts around 1.000 participants both from industry and academia. The most recent EFMC-ISMC meeting took place in France (Nice, 2022).

The scientific programme of EFMC-ISMC 2024 will feature plenary sessions with lectures by Prof. David MacMillan (Princeton University, US), Prof. Véronique Gouverneur (University of Oxford, UK), Dr Emma Parmee (Janssen Pharmaceutica, US). The EFMC Awards, EFMC Prizes and EFMC Partner Prizes will also be part of the programme:

  • Nauta Pharmacochemistry Award for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology
  • UCB-Ehrlich Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry
  • Prous Institute - Overton and Meyer Award for New Technologies in Drug Discovery
  • EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist or Chemical Biologist in Academia
  • EFMC Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist or Chemical Biologist in Industry
  • IUPAC-Richter Prize
  • Klaus Grohe Prize

The programme will furthermore cover a wide range of selected topics with parallel sessions split into three main themes:

  • Chemical Biology
  • Drug Discovery Projects
  • Technologies

The session topics and session chairs are available here.

In addition, five open sessions will be part of the programme: First Time Disclosures I & II; Late Breaking News/Recent Developments; Highlights in Medicinal Chemistry as well as a special session on Early Career Women in Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology.

Lastly, a Breakfast Round Table Discussion will also be held, on the Development of the Pharmaceutical Sector in sub-Saharan Africa.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Rome in September!
