SPICA Virtual Session
The Importance of Chromatography in the Development of Vaccines

Virtual Event - October 14, 2021

As the COVID-19 pandemic is still not stabilised, many international conferences have newly been postponed. The SPICA Scientific Committee has also decided to further postpone the 18th International Symposium on Preparative and Industrial Chromatography and Allied Techniques in Lisbon to October 2022.

Nevertheless, a SPICA Virtual Session will be organised on October 14, 2021 from 16:00 to 18:00 CET, waiting for us to gather again in-person next year.

This 2-hour virtual session will highlight the impact of chromatography in the downstream processing of latest-generation vaccines and in particular those targeting SARS-CoV-2.

PROGRAMME
The SPICA Virtual Session will feature lectures from:

  • Dr Piergiuseppe NESTOLA (SARTORIUS STEDIM BIOTECH, Switzerland)
"Role of Chromatography in mRNA Vaccine Manufacturing"

  • Dr Cristina PEIXOTO (IBET, Oeiras, Portugal)
"Advances in Purification of Emerging Therapeutic Modalities"

  • Michael Schulte (MERCK KGAA, Darmstadt, Germany) will honor our prestigious colleague Prof. Klaus Unger who unfortunately passed away in 2020, with a lecture entitled "Klaus K. Unger – the Constant Quest to Flatten the Curve".
Professor Unger was one of the most prominent scientists in the field prep chromatography and his tremendous contribution has founded the base of modern preparative chromatography.

We are excited to have the opportunity to meet the SPICA community again and we hope that you will enjoy this short but stimulating programme! The participation to the SPICA Virtual Session is free of charge.
